She regularly enjoys traveling to play with orchestras across the state and teaches at middle/high schools throughout Western North Carolina. Last year she graduated with a Master’s degree from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where she studied with Jaren Atherholt as the Oboe Studio Graduate Assistant. Kayla received her Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where she studied with Linda Strommen and Roger Roe. She started teaching in 2014 and currently runs a private studio/reed business in Winston-Salem. She is passionate about teaching and eager to take on more students! She also sells American, long scrape oboe reeds. Kayla recently discovered a passion for music administration as well. Currently, she is Music Librarian for the Piedmont Wind Symphony, as well as Front Desk Associate of Charlotte Music School Online. Established honesty and trust between the teacher and student is essential for a productive learning environment. This honesty and trust should be grounded in the understanding that lessons are a collaborative experience, with responsibilities for both teacher and student. A couple thoughts on reeds… I believe reed making is an objective process, but I also believe it is a personal process.
